What will the tryout be like?
- The tryouts will be run like our practices.
- There will be scrimmages where you will be put on a team and asked to play. Show us how much you love soccer!
- There may be a few drills or activities that the coaches ask you to do. Some of them might be new to you. Do your best, and always feel free to ask questions!
- At the end of the tryout, the coach will talk briefly to you – and then gather your parents to talk a little them. Some coaches will prefer to talk to your parents while you are finishing practice, it depends on the team and the coach.
- Expect to hear from the coach or the registrar via email after the final tryout session.
What tips do you have for me?
- You might be nervous if you are going to make the team. That’s normal, but best to leave that worrying until after the tryouts. When you get to tryouts, just do your best. Have fun!
- Be confident but friendly. You are here to show us your love for soccer – and this takes many forms. If you aren’t great at one specific skill, don’t worry. Effort goes a long way. Just do your best!
- Ask questions! Ask for feedback! Be vocal but respectful. When the coaches are talking, listen quietly. When its your turn, say what’s on your mind. Coaches are there for you.

More about our tryouts…
Tryouts at SESC provide an opportunity for incoming soccer players to showcase their skills and knowledge of the game, while also getting to know other players and our staff.
Our coaching staff conducts age/gender-specific tryouts with a focus on small to full-sized scrimmages that align with their training methodologies. We emphasize positive reinforcement and create a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere on the field.
Families are welcome to attend and observe to gain a better understanding of how we operate. Our staff evaluates players during tryouts to place them with teams that will further their individual player development.
Following each tryout, coaches will hold a parent/player meeting to answer questions and provide additional information about our program.
Join us for tryouts and discover the perfect fit for your young athlete at SESC.
